On Friday, Twitter said that a software bug on its microblogging website had been addressed, restoring service to tens of thousands of users. Twitter has previously said on its support site that it was seeing an increase in application programming interface (API) issues, which are a set of standards for incorporating application software. In a tweet, the firm stated, 'We've solved a technical fault that was stopping trends form displaying and Retweets from publishing.' On Down detector, a website that analyses outages by aggregating status updates from a variety of sources, notably subscriber problems on its platform, over 40,000 users had claimed the service was down.

Around 2,000 people in India used Down detector around late on Thursday to report the problem. Users were unable to access Twitter via Android and iOS, as well as through a web browser, according to the reports.
